What Is The Meaning Or Definition Of Crossdresser / Crossdressing: The term “crossdresser” is derived from “cross,” which means “opposite,” and “dresser,” which means “dressing style,” hence, “cross-dresser” literally means “a person who dresses as the opposite sex.” The term “crossdresser,” is a slur or slang that is used to describe people who wear clothes of, or dress as, a member of a gender other than their assigned sex, and it is the act of wearing items of clothing and other accessories that commonly associated with the opposite sex within the realms of a particular society. Crossdresser is someone who dresses, publicly or privately, in clothing that society assigns to the opposite sex; however, crossdressing is not an implication of a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The term cross-dressing refers to an action or behavior, and it does not imply any specific reason or motive for that behavior. Crossdressing has been used throughout history and modern times for purposes of self-expression. Every society has its own expected norms for each gender relating to the style, color, or type of clothing that they are expected to wear, and hence, most societies have a set of rules, views, or even laws explaining what kind of attire is appropriate or inappropriate for each gender. Crossdressing is not and should not be considered synonymous with being transgender, though it has replaced the term “transvestite” to a certain extent. Crossdresser is a male or female who enjoys wearing clothes that are stereotypically worn by the opposite sex, that is, a man dressing in a woman's clothing is a male to female (MtF) crossdresser, and a woman dressing in a man's clothing is a female to male (FtM) crossdresser. Crossdressing can also be found to be sexually attractive by some folks, while not too favorably by others, and there can be many reasons why someone may decide to crossdress, and the reasons behind it can be quite personal. Crossdressing can be a hobby, a fashion statement, or a just style, and someone who cross-dresses may cross-dress occasionally, and not necessarily all the time. It is easiest to refer to crossdresser in the sex they are dressed as, many straight people crossdress, anyone of any sexuality, gender identity, or sex can crossdress, and hence, crossdressing does not automatically mean that the person is gay. Many cross-dressers are heterosexual and conduct their cross-dressing on a part-time basis. Crossdressers are generally put into the community of transgender people; however, a crossdresser does not always have a body or gender dysphoria, and can be totally satisfied with their gender identity assigned at birth, and most transgender people do not like being called crossdressers. Hence, it’s important to remember that not everyone that crossdresses is transgender, and not everyone that is transgender crossdresses. Crossdressers are also different from transvestites because transvestites are people who use crossdressing merely for sexual pleasure. Crossdressing should not be confused with drag queens or kings because drag queens or kings strive for a more stereotypical masculine or feminine look, whereas, crossdressers try to look more natural.
